Round rugs
and oval rugs are great shapes for braided rugs -- But why
is this ?
Round rugs, along with oval rugs and square rugs are the
main three shapes of rug available today, although there are
some rather fun exceptions. Round rugs and oval rugs are best
used as large area rugs rather than scatter or throw rugs
as their circular shape makes it difficult for them to fit
into their surroundings.
Round rugs and oval rugs are made using many different constructional
methods, with braided rugs being one of the most common. This
is due to the way in which a braided rug is formed, where
a long piece of braid is coiled down onto a flat surface,
either in a circular or oval shape. The braids are then sewn
together to form the rug.
Whilst round rugs, oval rugs and square rugs account for
the majority of rugs in today's marketplace, there are some
great exceptions. Most of these are aimed at the children's
market with frog rugs and fish rugs some of the more popular
shapes available.
