Genuine persian
rugs are oriental rugs which are made only in Iran --
But what is it that makes them so special ?
Genuine persian
rugs, such as kilim rugs, are only woven in Iran. However, oriental
rugs made in the persian style are produced in many neighboring
countries including Turkey, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan.
Traditionally, persian rugs, including the persian styled oriental
rugs, were made by wandering tribes people using portable looms.
Nowadays, village and town manufactured rugs are becoming much
more common.
Persian rugs, and many of the persian styled oriental rugs
such as oushak rugs, are famous for their hard wearing characteristics
and, if cared for, can last more than 100 years. This amazing
durability is largely due to the use of top quality kurk wool
which is shorn from the shoulders and chest of mountain lambs.
In order to get the best life out of persian rugs, and indeed
oriental rugs in general, you need to take care of them. They
should to be regularly vacuumed on both sides and periodically
checked for moth damage. To prevent marking, it is possible
to treat the fibers with a stain repellent.
These days there is a huge selection of genuine persian rugs
and persian styled oriental rugs available. Investing the
time to choose the perfect rug for you will help to ensure
many happy and trouble free years of use.
