Native american rugs, or southwestern rugs, are growing in popularity -- But why is this happening?

Native American rugs, also known as southwestern rugs, are becoming increasingly popular due to the rising interest in southwest styled interiors. One of the best known types of native american rug is the navajo rug made by the indigenous navaho people. These southwestern rugs have been made in the same way for over three hundred years, and many of today's weavers still totally depend on producing their own resources, from raising and shearing their own sheep, to the production of woolen yarn.

The rug making skills used to make these native american rugs are a large part of the culture and economics of these people. Sadly, it is now very difficult for a weaver to generate enough income solely from weaving these unique southwestern rugs, however, the long history and pride in what they produce keeps this wonderful art alive.

Native american rugs have a totally unique style, rich in colorful geometrical lines and shapes. If you are looking to buy one of these southwestern rugs consider the quality and neatness of the weave as well as the complexity and colors of the pattern, but above all if you find a southwest rug you really like, just buy it.
