Flokati
rugs have been made in Greece for generations - But are
these shag rugs suitable for a modern room ?
Flokati rugs
(also known as shag rugs) are traditionally made in Greece.
They are famous for their luxurious fluffy pile which is generally
from 3 to 5 inches long. Flokati rugs are made using a traditional
age old process and these unique shag style rugs are used not
only used as traditional floor rugs but also as bed covers or
wall hangings.
Flokati rugs are made from sheep's wool which is spun into
yarn and then woven to produce long loops, these loops are
then cut by hand to produce the basic pile. The luxurious
soft pile of these shag rugs is created by washing the rug
in a source of fast flowing water, traditionally by a fast
flowing stream or waterfall. It is this movement that gives
these luxury wool rugs their distinctive fluffy appearance.
Flokati rugs have been made for generations, but fit perfectly
into the most contemporary room, in keeping with shag rugs
generally. This style of modern rug adds a fantastic warmth
and beauty to a room whilst the woolen construction makes
it naturally flame and stain resistant as well as being hard
wearing.
Look after your flokati rug just like any regular wool based
shag rug. For a basic clean a quick shake or vacuum is all
you need. For a more thorough clean the rug can be washed
in a bath of lukewarm water using a mild washing solution
suitable for wool. You should not use hot water, detergent
or bleach. When you have finished, rinse your rug thoroughly
in running water and leave to drip dry in the shade.
