Beaulieu
rugs were once made by Beaulieu of America -- so what
happened ?
Beaulieu rugs were made by Beaulieu of America, the third
largest manufacturer of area rugs and carpets in the world.
The company behind beaulieu rugs was started in 1978 by Carl
and Mieke Bouckaert and were the first producer of polypropylene
oriental rugs. In 1981 they became the first company in the
area rug and carpet industry to produce their own yarn and
went on to diversify into the manufacture of tufting carpet
in 1984.
In 1980 Beaulieu Canada was formed to concentrate on producing
the beaulieu rug range of area and floor rugs. In 1990 they
purchased Coronet, then the second largest carpet manufacture
in Canada and in 1998 the Peerless carpet corporation, the
largest carpet manufacture in Canada.
In 2002, Beaulieu of America decided to stop producing the
range of beaulieu rugs and concentrate solely on the carpet
business. The area rug and hard surfaces divisions were subsequently
sold off.
